STOP Senior Hunger

Under-Nutrition or Malnutrition Threatens the Health of more than 5 Million American Seniors.

Seniors are at risk because of a variety of factors associated with aging that affect appetite and absorption of essential nutrients. Things like depression, living alone, medication interactions, dental pain, loss of taste, or perhaps even the fact that a senior can no longer get to the grocery store can contribute to senior hunger. To avoid the health problems associated with under-nutrition and malnutrition, it’s essential to know how to prevent them. That’s why Comfort Keepers® has created the STOP Senior Hunger initiative, an effort to educate people about the problem of malnutrition within the senior population and how you can help.

Across the nation, Comfort Keepers are reaching out to their communities to collect food for seniors in need or for those who are faced with the difficult choice between buying medication or paying utility bills and buying food. As part of STOP Senior Hunger, our Comfort Keepers offices also provide a variety of educational programs to help communities understand the problem of senior hunger. And Comfort Keepers shares helpful resources like WATCH so that family members and caregivers can easily identify signs of malnutrition in senior loved ones.
